  • C/o beingfrugal.net. :)

I think it’s a good reminder of sorts to be aware and conscious of how we spend our money and where it goes. :) That and I thought it was hilarious. If not a bit depressing, but hey, the best element of humor is that it contains a bit of truth. ^_^

I was surfing around on his website and I saw this post with this statement:

Every time you spend a dollar, you sacrifice a bit of your future.

He kind of broke it down and hashed it out, but I totally disagree with that statement. If I use a dollar to buy 20 dollars, how is that a sacrifice? More realistically, what I’m saying is, if you spend your money on something worthwhile or has a high rate of return, you are in a sense investing for your future.

For example: Let’s say I spend $300 on a nice business suit. I may wear it once. Or twice. It may get me a job that pays upwards of 90k/year. I’d say the trade-off is worth it.

Anyways, I’m sure that guy is aware of it, it just didn’t seem like it from his post.

I’ve been sick all week and it suuuuuckssssss. And they turned off the water today to fix the water main. That sucks too. But How I Met Your Mother is a great show and Josh Radnor is so cute!

  • hahah thanks for the reminder. i think it’s better to have it written on your wallet than having someone saying it to you. cuz then you can just punch their face…and, that’s not nice! =P hahaa i hope you’re feeling better lynn! happy holidays! merry christmas and have a happy happy new year!!! =) oh btw, i think i read on your xanga beginning of this year that you’re going to try and save $50,000 by the end of the year (if i remember correctly)…how is that going?

  • 300 vs 90k hmmm? hahah anyways, thanks for the reminder but i think a lot of people dont really know what they are doing with their finances hahaha! personal finance should be a prereq. for college courses hahaha

  • thanks for the note! :) thankful that the Lord is speaking to you… =)

  • Hey Lynn!  It was fun having lunch with you today.  Here’s what you wrote on my xanga a while ago:

You wrote, “Many struggle with this idol of acceptance,” do you mean the idol itself is acceptance? As in, you accept the fact you are single and that becomes an idol? lol I wanted to ask because I was confused about what you meant. ^_^ But congrats to you guys!

Sorry for the delay in my response, but I’ve been really busy and exhausted from the Seattle trip.  Anyhoo, I know I could have been more clear in xanga, but what I was trying to say was that anything can be an idol if it’s what you obsess about more than God, or feel like you need it to be fulfilled, or for life to be good.  In this particular case, I was referring to the idol of being married or having someone, which is what some people and myself cared about the most in life, like saying, “If I don’t get married, I’ll never be happy.”  For a lot of people, they feel that they need to get married or have a boy/girlfriend in order to feel normal or feel accepted, or feel complete.  That feeling of adequacy or “acceptance” becomes the idol when you feel like God is not enough.  The bottom line is that as Christians we should be fully satisfied and content in our lives knowing that God loves us and wants to be with us for eternity, and that everything else is just icing on the cake.

I hope that makes sense, but if not, let me know.
